FRANCISCAN BROTHER HAS NO CONTACT WITH MINORS

FRANSCISCAN BROTHER STEPHEN BAKER IS FACING 5 MORE ALLEGATIONS OF ABUSING YOUNG BOYS BETWEEN 1986 AND 1990 WHILE SERVING AT JOHN F. KENNEDY HIGH SCHOOL IN WARREN OHIO. BAKER WAS NEVER CRIMINALLY CHARGED, BUT HE SETTLED A LAWSUIT WITH 11 OTHER ALLEGED VICTIMS BACK IN OCTOBER. BAKER WAS A TEACHER AND COACH AT BISHOP MCCORT HIGH SCHOOL IN JOHNSTOWN IN THE LATE 1990’S AND HE NOW LIVES AT ST. BERNADINE’S MONASTERY IN HOLLIDAYSBURG WHERE HE IS UNDER SUPERVISION AND HAS NO CONTACT WITH MINORS. IN NOVEMBER 2011, BISHOP MARK BARTCHAK OF THE ALTOONA-JOHNSTOWN DIOCESE SAYS HE LEARNED ABOUT BAKER HAVING “INAPPROPRIATE CONTACT” WITH MINORS IN OHIO. HE SAYS HE REPORTED IT TO AUTHORITIES IMMEDIATELY AND BAKER WAS REMOVED FROM ALL MINISTERIAL ACTIVITIES. ANYONE WHO WANTS TO REPORT POSSIBLE ABUSE SHOULD CONTACT THE MINISTER PROVINCIAL AT ST.  BERNADINE’S.

HOSPITAL MODIFIES VISITATION POLICY

THE STATE HEALTH DEPARTMENT SAYS 7 PEOPLE IN OUR AREA HAVE DIED OF FLU-RELATED CAUSES SINCE SEPTEMBER. 3 OF THE DEATHS OCCURRED IN CENTRE COUNTY LAST WEEK AND BEDFORD, BLAIR, JEFFERSON, AND SOMERSET ALL REPORTED 1 DEATH IN THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS. MEANWHILE, J-C BLAIR MEMORIAL HOSPITAL IN HUNTINGDON IS THE LATEST TO RESTRICT ITS VISITATION POLICY. VISITORS MUST BE AT LEAST 16… IMMEDIATE FAMILY OR CAREGIVERS OF PATIENTS. IF THE PATIENT THEY’RE VISITING HAS FLU SYMPTOMS, THEY MUST WEAR A MASK. ONLY PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS CAN VISIT THE MATERNITY UNIT AND MUST WEAR A MASK.
