ELK COUNTY MURDER BEING INVESTIGATED –

IN ELK COUNTY, A MURDER PROBE IS UNDERWAY.  22 YEAR OLD NICK MARTIN IS ACCUSED OF THE MURDER OF AN 18 YEAR OLD GIRL IN JOHNSONBURG IDENTIFIED AS ALYSSA FORSYTHE. ALTHOUGH THE MURDER HAPPENED IN JOHNSONBURG, THE WOMAN’S BODY WAS FOUND IN A WOODED AREA IN RIDGEWAY. A PRELIMINARY HEARING FOR MARTIN IS SCHEDULED FOR NEXT WEDNESDAY.


DRUG SWEEP IN BEDFORD COUNTY -

21 SUSPECTED DRUG DEALERS WERE CHARGED BY BEDFORD COUNTY POLICE ON TUESDAY. BEDFORD COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY BILL HIGGINS SAYS THAT MOST WERE CONSIDERED TO BE “LOW LEVEL” DEALERS. 14 OF THE SUSPECTS WERE ROUNDED UP BY SEVERAL POLICE DEPARTMENTS IN BEDFORD AND SOUTHERN HUNTINGDON COUNTIES.  POLICE CONTINUE TO SEARCH FOR THE REMAINING FIVE. ANYONE WITH ANY INFORMATION IS ASKED TO CONTACT BEDFORD POLICE.

 

PRELIMINARY HEARINGS SCHEDULED IN CAMBRIA COUNTY DRUG CASE -

THE CAMBRIA COUNTY DRUG TASK FORCE AND STATE DRUG AGENTS RECENTLY SEIZED ABOUT $10,000 worth of heroin, $3,000 IN CASH, AND SEVERAL GUNS IN CARROLLTOWN…AND PRELIMINARY HEARINGS ARE SCHEDULED TODAY FOR ERNEST AND DEBORAH LUTE OF Carrolltown AND WILLIAM ROUNSLEY OF NORTHERN CAMBRIA. OVER THE PAST 6 MONTHS, officers MADE CONTROLLED BUYS FROM THE LUTES’ HOUSE WHERE THEY LIVE WITH THEIR 2 CHILDREN ONLY ABOUT A BLOCK AWAY FROM Cambria Heights Elementary School.
Police SAY THE DRUGS WERE COMING FROM PHILADELPHIA AND THEY expect TO MAKE more arrestS.

ARMED ROBBERY IN JOHNSTOWN –

AN ARMED ROBBERY LAST NIGHT IS UNDER INVESTIGATION IN THE MOXHAM  SECTION OF JOHNSTOWN.  POLICE SAY A MAN HAD A WEAPON AND ROBBED A WOMAN ALONG THE 700 BLOCK OF PARK AVENUE.  POLICE SAY SEVERAL WITNESSES WERE QUESTIONED, BUT SO FAR, NO CHARGES HAVE BEEN FILED.

 

SUPERINTENDENT PLACED ON PAID LEAVE -

ALTOONA AREA SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT DENNIS MURRAY HAS BEEN PUT ON PAID ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE. TODAY’S ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS THAT THE ALTOONA SCHOOL BOARD VOTED 6 TO 3 TO PLACE MURRAY ON  PAID LEAVE AND HIRE A PHILADELPHIA-AREA LAW FIRM TO CONTINUE AN INVESTIGATION INTO SEVERAL ADMINSTRATIVE PAY INCREASES THAT APPEAR TO HAVE NO RECORD OF BOARD APPROVAL.  MURRAY HAS NOT WORKED SINCE JANUARY, WHEN HE HAD SHOULDER SURGERY.

 

LAWSUIT WILL PROCEED AS SCHEDULED

THE LAWSUIT FILED BY VICTIM NUMBER 6 IN THE JERRY SANDUSKY CASE WILL GO ON AS SCHEDULED. IN A COURT ORDER ON MONDAY, FEDERAL JUDGE ANITA BRODY DENIED PENN STATE AND THE SECOND MILE’S REQUEST TO DELAY THE LAWSUIT. BRODY SAID THE ALLEGED VICTIM HAS ALREADY WAITED TOO LONG AND WOULD BE BURDENED IF THE CASE WERE DELAYED. BRODY DID SAY THAT PENN STATE AND THE SECOND MILE CAN RAISE THEIR ISSUES IN A REQUEST FOR A STAY “IF AND WHEN THEY ARE MORE IMMINENT”. A HEARING FOR LAWYERS IN BOTH SIDES OF THE CASE WAS SCHEDULED IN PHILADELPHIA YESTERDAY BUT WAS CANCELLED BY JUDGE BRODY.

 

SANDUSKY APPEALS JUDGE’S RULING –

ACCORDING TO “PENNLIVE”, JERRY SANDUSKY IS APPEALING A FEDERAL JUDGE’S RULING THAT THE SECOND MILE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING FOR HIS DEFENSE IN CRIMINAL AND CIVIL CASES. JUDGE YVETTE KANE RULED THAT SANDUSKY’S SEXUAL ABUSE WASN’T DONE IN HIS CAPACITY AS AN EMPLOYEE OR EXECUTIVE OF THE CHARITY.  THE JUDGE SAID THAT EVEN THOUGH SANDUSKY MET THE VICTIMS THROUGH THE SECOND MILE DOESN’T CHANGE THE FACT THAT THE ABUSE WAS PERSONAL IN NATURE.


GOVERNOR IN HAPPY VALLEY -

GOVERNOR CORBETT VISITED THE CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY IN PLEASANT GAP YESTERDAY.  THE SCHOOL IS EXPANDING DUE TO A 2-MILLION-DOLLAR ECONOMIC GROWTH INITIATIVE GRANT FROM THE STATE. THE GOVERNOR SAYS THE STATE INVESTMENT WILL PAY OFF BECAUSE IT WILL CREATE JOBS. THE CENTRE DAILY TIMES REPORTS THAT THE INITIATIVE IS EXPECTED TO CREATE 31 NEW PERMANENT JOBS AND 14 PART-TIME JOBS AT THE FACILITY WITHIN THE NEXT YEAR. CORBETT ESTIMATES THAT IT WILL CREATE 185 JOBS STATEWIDE WITH ADDITIONAL TRAINED WORKERS COMING OUT OF THE SCHOOL.

 

LEGISLATION FOR REPORTING LEGIONNAIRES DISEASE -

SENATOR BOB CASEY PLANS TO INTRODUCE A NEW PIECE OF LEGISLATION THAT DEALS WITH REPORTING LEGIONNAIRES' DISEASE.  SPEAKING IN PITTSBURGH ON TUESDAY, THE SENATOR EXPRESSED DISMAY AT THE WAY THE PITTSBURGH V-A HANDLED THE RECENT OUTBREAK.  CASEY SAID HIS MEASURE WOULD REQUIRE V-A HOSPITALS ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO REPORT CASES OF LEGIONNAIRES' WITHIN 24-HOURS OF DIAGNOSIS.  BETWEEN 2011 AND 2012, AT LEAST 21 PATIENTS WERE STRICKEN WITH THE DISEASE AND FIVE DIED.


BUSINESSES WARNED ABOUT SCAM –

 PENNSYLVANIA CORPORATIONS ARE NOT IMMUNE FROM CONS AND SCAMS. THE SECRETARY OF THE COMMONWEALTH SAID A PHONY COMPANY CALLING THEMSELVES PENNSYLVANIA CORPORATE COMPLIANCE COMPANY IS SENDING A BOGUS INVOICE TO BUSINESSES ACROSS P-A.  THE OFFICIAL-LOOKING NOTE REQUIRES A 125-DOLLAR FEE AND AN ANNUAL MEETING DISCLOSURE STATEMENT BE SUBMITTED TO BEING LISTED IN "BAD STANDING."  NO SUCH INFORMATION OR FEE IS REQUIRED BY THE STATE.

 

EMERGENCY DRILL TONIGHT IN CENTRE COUNTY –

 CENTRE LIFELINK E-M-S AND THE CENTRAL REGION EMERGENCY STRIKE TEAM WILL BE CONDUCTING A LARGE-SCALE “MASS CASUALTY INCIDENT DRILL” TONIGHT AT 6 IN THE COLLEGE TOWNSHIP AREA OF STATE COLLEGE. THE DRILL IS PLANNED EACH SPRING TO PREAPRE THE SERVICES FOR MASS CASUALTY AND DISASTER INCIDENTS. RESIDENTS ARE REMINDED THAT IT’S ONLY A DRILL..AND THAT ALL PATIENTS AND SITUATIONS ARE STAGED.

 

PUNXSY PHIL’S INDICTMENT WITHDRAWN

A CRIMINAL INDICTMENT AGAINST PUNXSUTAWNEY PHIL HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN.  LAST WEEK AN OHIO PROSECUTOR CALLED FOR PHIL'S DEATH FOR HIS ERRONEOUS EARLY SPRING PREDICTION.  THE WHOLE THING WAS A JOKE, OF COURSE.  PENNSYLVANIA'S BELOVED GROUNDHOG WILL BE CALLED UPON TO PROGNOSTICATE AGAIN NEXT FEBRUARY 2ND.
