DEADLY WRECK
A FATAL CRASH ON A SNOWY CHRISTMAS EVE IN CLEARFIELD COUNTY. STATE POLICE SAY 37 YEAR OLD JAMAL ALHAJ OF ERIE WAS EASTBOUND ON I-80 WHEN HE LOST CONTROL OF HIS S-U-V IN LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP. ALHAJ STRUCK AN EMBANKMENT, THEN THE VEHICLE ROLLED ONTO ITS ROOF. ALHAJ DIED LATER AT CLEARFIELD HOSPITAL. HE WAS NOT WEARING A SEAT BELT.

DRUNK DRIVER REPORTS TO POLICE BARRACKS

STATE POLICE IN HUNTINGDON SAY 22 YEAR OLD ANDREW MCKINNEY OF HUNTINGDON COUNTY WAS INTOXICATED WHEN HE STOPPED AT THE BARRACKS JUST BEFORE NOON SUNDAY TO DISCUSS A HIT AND RUN CRASH THAT HAPPENED THAT MORNING ON RAYSTOWN ROAD. MCKINNEY HAD DRIVEN THE VEHICLE REPORTED IN THE HIT AND RUN TO THE POLICE STATION. CHARGES OF D-U-I AND SEVERAL SUMMARY TRAFFIC CITATIONS ARE PENDING.

ALTOONA STANDOFF

A PEACEFUL END TO A 17 HOUR STANDOFF IN ALTOONA. IT STARTED AR0UND 2 PM ON CHRISTMAS EVE WHEN A MAN BARRICADED HIMSELF INSIDE A HOME ON THE 55-HUNDRED BLOCK OF 5TH AVENUE AFTER POLICE OFFICERS WENT TO A HOUSE IN THE AREA TO SERVE AN INVOLUNTARY COMMITMENT ORDER. THE MAN WAS BELIEVED TO BE ARMED AND ALONE SO THE COPS ASKED AREA RESIDENTS TO STAY INSIDE AND THEY DIVERTED TRAFFIC. THE SUSPECT WAS TAKEN TO ALTOONA REGIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM FOR AN EVAULATION.

MAN THREATENED MASSACRE

51 YEAR OLD STEVEN MILLER OF BREEZEWOOD IS CHARGED WITH THREATENING TO MASSACRE PEOPLE AT THE EVERETT WEIS MARKETS WHERE HE WORKED AND ALSO AT THE SUSQUEHANNA BANK BRANCH WHERE HE CASHED HIS PAYCHECKS…AND HIS PRELIMINARY HEARING IS SCHEDULED TODAY. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED LAST THURSDAY AND MILLER ALLEGEDLY TOLD THE BANK CLERK HIS CHECK WASN’T ENOUGH TO COVER THE HOURS HE HAD WORKED SO HE WOULD SHOOT PEOPLE – QUOTE –“JUST LIKE AT THAT SCHOOL THE OTHER DAY.” BEDFORD COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY BILL HIGGINS SAYS MILLER WAS ARRESTED WITHOUT INCIDENT AT A CONVENIENCE STORE AND HE DID NOT HAVE ANY GUNS. THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT HE HAD WEAPONS AT HOME EITHER. BAIL IS SET AT 150-THOUSAND DOLLARS.

ALTOONA MAN THREATENS FAMILY

ALTOONA POLICE SAY19 YEAR OLD RICHARD EBERHART JUNIOR IS BEHIND BARS AFTER THREATENING TO SHOOT HIS FAMILY DURING A DRUNKEN ARGUMENT EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. EBERHART ALLEGEDLY TOLD HIS PARENTS HE WOULD GET HIS MOTHER’S HANDGUN AND KILL EVERYONE IN THE HOUSE, INCLUDING HIS GIRLFRIEND. EBERHART TRIED TO PUNCH A COP BEFORE HE WAS PEPPERSPRAYED AND TAKEN INTO CUSTODY. BAIL IS SET AT 75-THOUSAND DOLLARS CASH AND A PRELIMINARY HEARING IS SET FOR THE FIRST OF THE YEAR.

ANYONE INTERESTED IN PENNSYLVANIA’S PROPERTY TAX AND RENT REBATE PROGRAM MUST APPLY BEFORE THE DEADLINE ON MONDAY. STATE SENATOR JOHN WOZNIAK SAYS THOUSANDS OF LOW INCOME RESIDENTS WHO QUALIFY FAIL TO APPLY EVERY YEAR. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR HOMEOWNERS AND RENTERS WHO ARE 65 YEARS OR OLDER…WIDOWS OR WIDOWERS OVER THE AGE OF 50…AND PERMANENTLY DISABLED PERSONS OVER THE AGE OF 18.
