FATAL TRAIN ACCIDENT

THE CAMBRIA COUNTY CORONER WAS CALLED TO A FATAL TRAIN ACCIDENT EARLY THIS MORNING IN PORTAGE TOWNSHIP. THE VICTIM WAS IN HIS LATE 30’S OR EARLY 40’S, BUT HIS NAME HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED. NO OTHER DETAILS ARE AVAILABLE.

ALTOONA MAN MISSING

ALTOONA POLICE ARE LOOKING FOR A MISSING MAN. 21 YEAR OLD JONATHAN LONG HAS A HISTORY OF BI-POLAR, SCHIZOPHRENIA, AND A-D-H-D AND HE HASN’T BEEN SEEN SINCE SUNDAY AFTERNOON. FAMILY MEMBERS SAY HE SEEMED DEPRESSED LATELY. IF YOU’VE SEEN LONG, CALL POLICE AT 949-24-89.

BODIES IDENTIFIED

THE BODIES OF A 53 YEAR OLD MAN AND WOMAN WERE FOUND LAST SUNDAY INSIDE A HOUSE ON HUCKLEBERRY STREET IN TYRONE…NOW POLICE HAVE IDENTIFIED THEM AS MONA REDMAN AND RICHARD HARTMAN. THE BLAIR COUNTY CORONER’S OFFICE CONDUCTED AUTOPSIES AND AUTHORITIES ARE NOW WAITING FOR TOXICOLOGY REPORTS. THE MANNER AND CAUSE OF DEATH HAVE NOT BEEN DETERMINED.

2 KILLED IN INDIANA COUNTY

THE INDIANA COUNTY CORONER SAYS HE SUSPECTS ALCOHOL IS TO BLAME FOR A DEADLY CRASH EARLY TUESDAY MORNING ON ROUTE 403 IN EAST MAHONING TOWNSHIP. 49-YEAR-OLD CURTIS KUNKLE AND 36-YEAR-OLD LEANN KOMLOSKY, BOTH OF MARION CENTER, DIED WHEN THEIR CAR RAN THE ROAD SOUTH OF MARION CENTER, AND SLAMMED INTO A TREE. NEITHER WAS WEARING A SEAT BELT.

CAR VERSUS POST OFFICE

STATE POLICE HAVE NOW FILED D-U-I, SIMPLE ASSAULT, CRIMINAL MISCHIEF, AND UNAUTHORIZED USE OF A VEHICLE CHARGES AGAINST 25 YEAR OLD PATRICK LEEPER JUNIOR OF TYRONE. MONDAY, TROOPERS RESPONDED TO AN ALLEGED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INCIDENT AND LEEPER FLED IN A WOMAN’S CAR. AS POLICE CHASED HIM, HE CRASHED INTO THE TIPTON POST OFFICE, CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. LEEPER IS IN THE BLAIR COUNTY PRISON WITH A PRELIMINARY HEARING SCHEDULED TUESDAY.

FIRE BLAMED ON COAL FURNACE

A STATE POLICE FIRE MARSHAL HAS RULED A FIRE ON SUNDAY IN NORTHERN CAMBRIA AS ACCIDENTAL. THE CRAWFORD AVENUE FIRE GUTTED THE HOME OF EARL AND CHRISTINA ABRAMS, BUT NO ONE WAS INJURED. A COAL FURNACE FLARE-UP IS BLAMED.

KILLER SENTENCED

MARQUIS NEAL OF PHILADELPHIA WAS CONVICTED IN THE 2011 SHOOTING DEATH OF J-QUAN LEWIS OUTSIDE JOHNSTOWN’S OAKHURST HOMES HOUSING PROJECT. YESTERDAY, A CAMBRIA COUNTY JUDGE SENTENCED HIM TO 25 TO 50 YEARS IN A STATE PRISON AND HIS ATTORNEY IS PLANNING AN APPEAL. NEAL’S COUSIN, ANTHONY HARVEY, DROVE THE GET-AWAY CAR. HIS SENTENCE IS 7 TO 25 YEARS.

GAS PRICES FALL…A LITTLE

A LITTLE BIT OF RELIEF FOR WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA DRIVERS. TRIPLE A FUEL GAUGE SAYS PRICES DROPPED  A PENNY AT THE PUMP AND THE AVERAGE IS NOW $3.83 PER GALLON. TODAY’S NATIONAL AVERAGE IS $3.74. THAT’S 22 CENTS MORE THAN ONE MONTH AGO, BUT IT IS 3 CENTS LESS EXPENSIVE THAN ONE WEEK AGO AND 3 CENTS LESS THAN THE AVERAGE PRICE ONE YEAR AGO.

HOSPITAL VISITING POLICY

ALTOONA REGIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM HAS LIFTED THE VISITING RESTRICTIONS THAT WERE PUT IN PLACE AT THE HEIGHT OF THE FLU SEASON IN JANUARY. NORMAL VISITING GUIDELINES NOW APPLY IN ALL UNITS. AS ALWAYS, ANYONE FEELING ILL SHOULD NOT VISIT A HOSPITAL PATIENT, ESPECIALLY IF THEY HAVE SIGNS OR SYMPTOMS OF A COLD OR THE FLU.
