MURDER VICTIMS IDENTIFIED

JOHNSTOWN POLICE DO NOT KNOW OF A MOTIVE FOR THE SHOOTING DEATHS OF 33 YEAR OLD KEVIN BURT AND 35 YEAR OLD ALICIA WELBORN, BUT THEY SAY THERE WERE SIGNS OF DRUG USE AT THEIR HOME ON BENSHOFF ROAD IN MINERSVILLE. THE FRIEND WHO DISCOVERED THE BODIES WAS ARRESTED AFTER POLICE FOUND MARIJUANA IN HIS POSSESSION, BUT HE IS NOT CONSIDERED A SUSPECT. THE TRIBUNE DEMOCRAT SAYS BURT WAS ARRESTED ON MISDEMEANOR DRUG CHARGES LAST DECEMBER…AND WELBORN WAS A FORMER SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER AT THE STATE PRISON IN INDIANA COUNTY. EARLIER THIS YEAR, SHE WAS CHARGED WITH INSTITUTIONAL SEXUAL ASSAULT, OFFICIAL OPPRESSION, DELIVERING OBSCENE MATERIALS TO A CORRECTIONAL FACILITY, IDENTITY THEFT, AND FORGERY.

PRISONER’S MURDER TRIAL UNDERWAY

DEFENSE ATTORNEYS FOR WILLIAM CRAMER SAY HE NEVER INTENDED TO KILL HIS CELLMATE AT THE CAMBRIA COUNTY PRISON IN 2012 AND IT WAS DONE IN THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT. CRAMER CLAIMS WILLIAM SHERRY TRIED TO ATTACK HIM WITH A SHARPENED TOOTHBRUSH AND HE WAS DEFENDING HIMSELF. SHERRY WAS BEATEN AND STRANGLED, THEN CRAMER TRIED TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE A SUICIDE. THE TRIAL RESUMES TODAY.

FUNDRAISER FOR WOUNDED TROOPER

STATE TROOPER BRADLEY WILSON IS RECOVERING AT UPMC PITTSBURGH AFTER BEING SHOT TWICE WHILE SERVING A DRUG WARRANT IN BROCKWAY, JEFFERSON COUNTY, LAST MONTH. THE VFW ON FULLER STREET IN DUBOIS IS MAKING PLANS FOR A STEAK DINNER FUNDRAISER NEXT SUNDAY, OCTOBER 20TH, STARTING AT NOON. ORGANIZER ERNIE MOORE SAYS EACH PLATE IS 12-DOLLARS. OVER 600 STEAKS HAVE ALREADY BEEN ORDERED AND THEY HAVE 200 MORE ON RESERVE. ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO TO TROOPER WILSON’S MEDICAL EXPENSES AND HIS FAMILY’S TRAVEL AND LODGING.

DRUG KINGPIN’S DAD PLEADS GUILTY

IN CAMBRIA COUNTY COURT YESTERDAY, CARROLLTOWN BAR OWNER GERALD LOWMASTER PLEADED GUILTY TO LAUNDERING MONEY FROM HIS SON’S MULTIMILLION-DOLLAR DRUG RING. GERALD LOWMASTER FACES UP TO 20 YEARS BEHIND BARS WHEN HE’S SENTENCED FEBRUARY 27TH. GEORGE LOWMASTER IS SCHEDULED TO GO ON TRIAL LATER THIS MONTH IN FEDERAL COURT, BUT A PLEA DEAL COULD BE IN THE WORKS FOR HIM WITH A COURT APPEARANCE SET FOR NEXT FRIDAY. HIS MOTHER, MARGUERITE, HAS ALSO PLEADED GUILTY AND FACES PRISON TIME. DOZENS OF OTHER MEMBERS OF THE OPERATION WERE ALSO ARRESTED.

DRUG BUST

2 MORE ARRESTS FOLLOWING A DRUG BUST IN CENTRE COUNTY TUESDAY NIGHT. STATE POLICE PULLED OVER A VEHICLE IN PHILIPSBURG AND A DRUG-SNIFFING DOG FOUND 2 POUNDS OF SYNTHETIC MARIJUANA, 148 PACKETS OF HEROIN, AND VARIOUS DRUG PARAPHERNALIA INSIDE THE CAR. CHARLES JONES OF STATE COLLEGE AND SCOTT MCCLIMENT OF MORRISDALE WERE CHARGED FIRST…AND NOW POLICE HAVE CHARGED AARON SWANSEGAR OF CLEARFIELD AND NICHOLAS BANEY OF OSCEOLA MILLS.

CAMPGROUND CLOSING EARLY

THE US ARMY CORPS HAS ANNOUNCED THAT 7 POINTS CAMPGROUND AT RAYSTOWN LAKE WILL CLOSE EARLY FOR THE SEASON ON MONDAY DUE TO THE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN.
