BODY FOUND IN CAMBRIA COUNTY

STATE POLICE SAY THE BODY OF 30 YEAR OLD AMANDA SHERRY-GRIFFON OF NORTHERN CAMBRIA WAS FOUND IN THE WOODS ALONG GRACE STREET JUST BEFORE 8 SATURDAY NIGHT. CAMBRIA COUNTY CORONER DENNIS KWIATKOWSKI HAS RULED THE DEATH SUSPICIOUS, BUT HE CAN’T SAY HOW LONG THE BODY WAS THERE BEFORE THE PROPERTY OWNER DISCOVERED IT. AN AUTOPSY IS SCHEDULED THIS MORNING.

DEADLY BIKE WRECK

AN 85 YEAR OLD MAN DIED SATURDAY AFTER A BICYCLE CRASH IN STATE COLLEGE. POLICE SAY DUANE OLSON LOST CONTROL OF HIS BIKE AND WRECKED ALONG ROLLING RIDGE DRIVE IN COLLEGE TOWNSHIP. OLSON HIT A FENCE AND A WALL AND LATER DIED.

TEXTING BEFORE FATAL WRECK

STATE POLICE IN MIFFLIN COUNTY HAVE DETERMINED THAT TEXTING IS TO BLAME FOR A CRASH THAT KILLED 2 PEOPLE TUESDAY IN REEDSVILLE. 19 YEAR OLD CIERA KNODE AND 85 YEAR OLD JANET WHITE WERE BOTH KILLED IN THE WRECK ALONG STATE ROUTE 655. TROOPERS SAY A PHONE RECOVERED FROM THE SCENE HAD TEXT MESSAGES THAT WERE SENT AND RECEIVED WITHIN SECONDS OF THE COLLISION.

FIRES

A LARGE BRUSH FIRE BROKE OUT SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND CONTINUES TO BURN IN THE MOUNTAINS OF CUMBERLAND VALLEY, BEDFORD COUNTY. OFFICIALS SAY THE BLAZE HAS SPREAD CLOSE TO 200 ACRES. 2 PLANES AND A HELICOPTER ARE PROVIDING AIR SUPPORT. THE DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION AND NATURAL RESOURCES IS URGING PEOPLE TO BE EXTRA CAUTIOUS THIS TIME OF YEAR WHEN THE FIRE DANGER IS HIGH.

FIRE DAMAGED A HOUSE ON THE 800 BLOCK OF 39TH STREET IN NORTHERN CAMBRIA SATURDAY AFTERNOON. THE WOMAN WHO LIVED IN THE HOUSE WAS NOT HOME AT THE TIME AND NO ONE WAS HURT. A STATE FIRE MARSHAL IS INVESTIGATING THE CAUSE.

MAN ATTACKED BY DOGS

A VICIOUS DOG ATTACK FRIDAY NIGHT IN JOHNSTOWN’S HORNERSTOWN SECTION. POLICE SAY A 56 YEAR OLD MAN WAS WALKINBG ALONG PINE STREET WHEN 2 DOGS ATTACKED HIM. A NEIGHBOR HEARD THE SCREAMS AND SHOT ONE OF THE DOGS. WHEN POLICE ARRIVED, THEY SHOT AND KILLED THE OTHER DOG. THE VICTIM IS IN THE INTENSIVE CARE UNIT AT MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTER. CHARGES ARE PENDING AGAINST THE DOG OWNER.

TEEN THROWS HOT COFFEE POTS

A 17 YEAR-OLD JUVENILE SPENT EASTER WEEKEND IN THE BLAIR COUNTY PRISON AFTER TRYING TO ROB THE TYRONE SHEETZ. BORO POLICE SAY THE TEEN WALKED INTO THE STORE JUST BEFORE 3 SATURDAY MORNING AND DEMANDED MONEY. HE THREW HOT POTS OF COFFEE AT THE EMPLOYEES AND PUSHED OVER CASH REGISTERS. HE FLED WITH 3 PACKS OF CIGARETTES, CUT COPS CAUGHT HIM LESS THAN 5 MINUTES LATER.

THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU EAT THAT HOT DOG. FEDERAL OFFICIALS SAY KRAFT FOODS IS RECALLING OF 96-THOUSAND POUNDS OF HOT DOGS BECAUSE PACKAGING LABELS WERE INCORRECT. THE OSCAR MAYER CLASSIC WIENERS PACKAGES MAY HAVE CONTAINED CHEESE DOGS, BUT THE PACKAGING DOES NOT ADVISE CONSUMERS THAT THEY CONTAIN MILK. THE 16-OUNCE PACKAGES WERE PRODUCED ON MARCH 2ND AND 3RD AND HAVE THE ESTABLISHMENT NUMBER “EST. 537H” INSIDE THE USDA MARK OF INSPECTION. VIRTUAL SCHOOL DAYS AT B-G

THE ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS THAT BISHOP GUILFOYLE WILL START HAVING VIRTUAL SCHOOL DAYS NEXT YEAR INSTEAD OF SNOW DAYS. EACH STUDENT ALREADY HAS AN I-PAD FUNDED THROUGH DONATIONS AND THEY WILL SIGN IN FOR EACH OF THEIR 8 CLASSES ON A VIRTUAL DAY. THIS SCHOOL YEAR WAS INTERRUPTED BY LOTS OF SNOW DAYS DUE TO THE HARSH WINTER.
