man steals state police cruiser

26 YEAR OLD ANTHONY FOX OF SMICKSBURG IS FACING A VERY LONG LIST OF CHARGES AFTER STEALING A STATE POLICE CRUISER SATURDAY NIGHT IN CAMBRIA COUNTY. STATE TROOPERS AND OFFICERS FROM JACKSON TOWNSHIP AND VINTONDALE BORO RESPONDED TO LLOYD STREET IN NANTY gLO FOR A REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS PERSON. THEY HANDCUFFED FOX, WHO WAS APPARENTLY UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS, AND PUT HIM IN THE CRUISER. HE FREED HIS ARMS FROM BEHIND HIS BACK AND JUMPED INTO THE DRIVERS SEAT…THEN LED COPS ON A CHASE. HE LOST CONTROL ALONG OLD NANTY GLO ROAD AND FORCED HIS WAY INTO A HOUSE. Fox is NOW in the County Jail.

FIRE DESTROYED A BEDFORD COUNTY BARN SHORTLY BEFORE 5 SUNDAY MORNING. SOUTHERN COVE VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY CHIEF BRIAN WALTER SAYS WAYNE GRAHAM OF WOODBURY HAD PUT SOME HAY IN THE BARN AND IT SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUSTED. THE CATTLE ESCAPED WITHOUT INJURY.

ARMED ROBBERY IN ST. COLLEGE

State College police HAVE NOT RELEASED THE NAME OF THE man ARRESTED FOLLOWING AN ARMED robbery SHORTLY BEFORE 6PM Saturday on the basketball courts in Orchard Park. AUTHORITIES saY the suspect HAD A 10 TO 12-inch knife WHEN HE approached another man AND DEMANDED HIS personal property. The ROBBER was taken into custody early Sunday evening.

HONORING A FALLEN HERO

THE TOWN OF HASTINGS IN CAMBRIA COUNTY GATHERED THIS WEEKEND TO honor Marine SERGEANT DEREK SHANFIELD WHO WAS killed IN COMBAT in Afghanistan in 2010. A baseball field and a bridge WERE dedicated in HIS memory EXACTLY 3 YEARS TO THE DAY AFTER HIS DEATH. Shanfield's 2 brothers are STILL in the Marines.

Many SchoolS HAVE ALREADY WRAPPED UP THE YEAR AND thAT means MOTORISTS NEED TO BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR children playing outside and on bicycles. From 2008 through 2012, there were 130 crashes in PennDOT’s District 9 including Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fulton, Huntingdon and Somerset counties that involved a bicycle, resulting in 3 fatalities. During the same time period, there were 376 crashes involving a pedestrian, resulting in 26 fatalities. by law, DRIVERS must allow at least 4 feet between their vehicle and A bicyclist when passing. cyclists are reminded to always wear a helmet, avoid biking at night, ride with the flow of traffic, AND OBEY ALL OTHER RULES OF THE ROAD.

ALTOONA HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION

The 137th Altoona Area High School Commencement is tonight at 6:30. If the event is held at Mansion Park, the public is invited to attend and Tickets are not required. IN CASE OF BAD weather, the ceremony will be in the Field House AND each graduate has received 4 tickets.
