3 KILLED IN WRECKS

A FATAL CRASH SUNDAY MORNING IN BLAIR COUNTY. STATE POLICE SAY S. GRANT GAULT OF ALTOONA DIED AFTER SUFFERING MEDICAL COMPLICATIONS WHILE DRIVING. HE HIT A TREE ALONG SKELP MOUNTAIN ROAD IN ANTIS TOWNSHIP.

A BIG RIG DRIVER DIED SATURDAY MORNING AFTER A CRASH ON THE TURNPIKE IN BEDFORD COUNTY. POLICE SAY 31 YEAR OLD DAMION LOBBAN FELL ASLEEP WHILE GOING AROUND A CURVE IN WEST PROVIDENCE TOWNSHIP. THE TRUCK HIT AN EMBANKMENT AND THEN OVERTURNED. 32 YEAR OLD BENJAMIN BLUE, WHO WAS SLEEPING IN THE SLEEPER SECTION, WAS THROWN FROM THE RIG ALONG WITH LOBBAN. BLUE SUFFERED MAJOR INJURIES.

A DEADLY WRECK ON THE TURNPIKE IN HUNTINGDON COUNTY SUNDAY MORNING. STATE POLICE SAY TSAI-LING YANG OF TAIWAN DIED AFTER THE S-U-V SHE WAS RIDING IN CRASHED ON THE SNOW AND SLUSH COVERED HIGHWAY IN DUBLIN TOWNSHIP. YANG WAS THROWN FROM THE WRECKAGE.

FIRES IN ALTOONA & JOHNSTOWN

THE ALTOONA FIRE MARSHAL IS STILL INVESTIGATING AFTER A FIRE DESTROYED ONE HOME AND DAMAGED 2 OTHERS EARLY SATURDAY MORNING. THE BLAZE BROKE OUT IN THE 400 BLOCK OF PINE AVENUE AROUND 6:30AM AT A VACANT HOUSE. NO ONE WAS INJURED.

7 PEOPLE WERE DISPLACED SATURDAY WHEN FIRE DAMAGED A HOUSE ON MCMILLEN STREET IN JOHNSTOWN. OFFICIALS SAY THE GREASE FIRE STARTED IN THE KITCHEN AND QUICKLY SPREAD, CAUSING THE INSIDE OF THE HOUSE TO COLLAPSE. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED.

SHOT TO DEATH IN JOHNSTOWN

POLICE SAY ONE MAN WAS SHOT IN THE PARKING LOT OUTSIDE EDDER’S DEN BAR IN THE OAKHURST SECTION OF TOWN JUST BEFORE 7:30 SUNDAY EVENING. THE SUSPECT FLED THE SCENE IN A BLACK S-U-V. THE NAME OF THE VICTIM WAS NOT RELEASED, BUT MORE INFORMATION IS EXPECTED TO BE RELEASED TODAY. POLICE DO NOT BELIEVE EITHER THE VICTIM OR THE SUSPECT WAS INSIDE THE BAR PRIOR TO THE SHOOTING.

MOM THREATENS TO SMOTHER BABY

21 YEAR OLD MIRANDA STREIGHTIFF IS IN THE BLAIR COUNTY PRISON, CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED CRIMINAL HOMICIDE FOR TRYING TO SMOTHER AN INFANT. POLICE SAY STREIGHTIFF HAD ARGUED WITH HER FIANCE…AND WHEN HE WOULDN'T RETURN HER CALLS, SHE ALLEGEDLY USED HER PHONE TO VIDEO-TAPE HERSELF PUTTING A PILLOW OVER THE 3 MONTH OLD CHILD. THE BABY AND ANOTHER CHILD IN THE HOUSE WERE BOTH OK WHEN POLICE ARRIVED.

DOTTIE SANDUSKY STILL BELIEVES

IN AN INTERVIEW WITH THE ASSOCIATED PRESS LAST WEEK, DOTTIE SANDUSKY SAID SHE STILL HAS HOPE THAT HER HUSBAND WILL BE EXONERATED. JERRY SANDUSKY IS APPEALING HIS 30 TO 60 YEAR STATE PRISON SENTENCE. DOTTIE CLAIMS WITNESSES WERE MANIPULATED AND SHE TRUSTS HER HUSBAND.

ILLNESS AT UPJ

SEVERAL STUDENTS GOT SICK WITH A STOMACH VIRUS LAST WEEK, PROMPTING THE UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH AT JOHNSTOWN TO CANCEL WEEKEND ACTIVITIES AND CLOSE DINING FACILITIES. EXTRA CLEANING CREWS WERE BROUGHT IN AND NORMAL OPERATIONS ARE SCHEDULED TO RESUME THIS MORNING. THERE HAVE BEEN NO NEW REPORTED CASES IN THE LAST 24 HOURS AND LESS THAN 5 STUDENTS SOUGHT TREATMENT SATURDAY AT THE HEALTH SERVICES OFFICE.
