HEALTHCARE ACT IN FULL EFFECT ON WEDNESDAY –

MILLIONS OF AMERICANS WILL HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE UNDER PRESIDENT OBAMA'S LANDMARK HEALTHCARE REFORM LAW THIS WEEK. THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT GOES FULLY INTO EFFECT WEDNESDAY. THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION SAYS OVER ONE-POINT-ONE MILLION PEOPLE HAVE SIGNED UP FOR COVERAGE SINCE THE HEALTHCARE.GOV WEBSITE WAS ROLLED OUT ON OCTOBER 1ST.

HOLIDAY TRAFFIC STATISTICS –

THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY TRAVEL RESULTED IN HUNDREDS OF ACCIDENTS ON PENNSYLVANIA HIGHWAYS. FROM CHRISTMAS EVE THROUGH DECEMBER 26TH, EIGHT PEOPLE DIED IN CRASHES AND PENNSYLVANIA STATE POLICE INVESTIGATED 900 ACCIDENTS THAT CAUSED 255 INJURIES. 41 CRASHES WERE ALCOHOL-RELATED. POLICE ISSUED 983 SPEEDING VIOLATIONS DURING THE 3-DAY PERIOD AND ARRESTED 151 DRIVERS WHO WERE UNDER THE INFLUENCE. THE NUMBERS INCLUDE ONLY THE ACCIDENTS THAT WERE INVESTIGATED BY STATE POLICE.

PRELIMINARY HEARING IN D-U-I- CASE TODAY –

37 YEAR OLD STEPHANIE PRICE OF FALLENTIMBER IS SCHEDULED TO ANSWER TO D-U-I AND OTHER CHARGES AT A PRELIMINARY HEARING TODAY. ALTOONA POLICE SAY, ON NOVEMBER 22ND, SHE RAN A RED LIGHT AT 12TH AVENUE AND 12TH STREET AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER SEDAN AND 2 PARKED CARS. SHE LEFT AN INJURED WOMAN IN HER VEHICLE AND FLED ON FOOT. THE OTHER DRIVER SUFFERED A BROKEN ANKLE. PRICE WAS FOUND AT A NEARBY TATTOO PARLOR AND FOUND TO BE INTOXICATED. SHE WAS DRIVING WITH A D-U-I-SUSPENDED LICENSE AND DID NOT HAVE INSURANCE.

PRELIMINARY HEARING FOR ALTOONA DRIVER TODAY –

A PREMILINARY HEARING IS SCHEDULED TODAY FOR AN ALTOONA MAN WHO CRASHED HIS S-U-V EARLIER THIS MONTH AFTER POLICE SAY HE LED THEM ON A DRUNKEN HIGH SPEED CHASE WITH A 3-YEAR-OLD CHILD AND PREGNANT WOMAN IN THE VEHICLE..24-YEAR-OLD TORYAN WHITE IS FACING TWO FELONIES, 2 MISDEMEANORS AND 20 TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS. AFTER HITTING A BRIDGE AND STONE WALL ON CRESCENT ROAD IN ALTOONA, WHITE FLED INTO THE WOODS, LEAVING HIS INJURED PASSENGERS.

UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS A “PRIORITY” -

AFTER BEING EXTENDED ELEVEN TIMES ALREADY, FEDERAL EMERGENCY UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS ENDED SATURDAY. SENATE MAJORITY LEADER HARRY REID SAYS RENEWING THE BENEFITS WILL BE A PRIORITY WHEN LAWMAKERS RETURN FROM THEIR HOLIDAY BREAK ON JANUARY 6TH. THE SENATE IS EXPECTED TO VOTE ON A THREE-MONTH EXTENSION.

BELLEFONTE MEETINGS LATER TODAY –

BELLEFONTE BOROUGH WILL HOLD A SPECIAL MEETING TODAY REGARDING INTEREST IN APPLYING FOR A FAÇADE INMPROVEMENT GRANT FOR THE DOWNTOWN AREA. THE MEETING WILL BE AT 4 IN COUNCIL CHAMBERS ON LAMB STREET. THERE WILL ALSO BE A PUBLIC GATHERING FOR THE GARMAN BUILDINGS TONIGHT FROM 5 TILL 6 AT THE CENTRE COUNTY COURT HOUSE STAIRS. THE DEMOLITION PROCESS FOR THE GARMAN AND THE HOTEL DO DE BEGAN ON THURSDAY.

STUDENT AID APPLICATION AVAILABLE ON WEDNESDAY –

STUDENTS WHO WANT TO APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID FOR THE 2014-2015 ACADEMIC YEAR CAN APPLY BEGINNING ON WEDNESDAY. STUDENTS CAN FILL OUT THE FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID TO DETERMINE WHAT TYPES OF AID THEY’RE ELIGIBLE FOR. THE APPLICATION IS AVAILABLE THROUGH THE PENNSYLVANIA HIGHER EDUCATION ASSISTANCE AGENCY AND MUST BE COMPLETED ANNUALLY.
