ADDITIONAL CHARGES FILED IN CHILD PORN CASE –

TODAY’S ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS THAT A WOMAN WHO IS ACCUSED OF POSSESSING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IS NOW FACING ADDITIONAL FELONY CHARGES. AT A PRELIMINARY HEARING YESTERDAY, PROSECUTORS INCREASED THE NUMBER OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES FROM 10 TO 81 AGAINST 38-YEAR-OLD HELEN MC KINLEY OF ALTOONA. 62 OF THE CHARGES WERE SENT ON TO THE COURT OF COMMON PLEAS. MC KINLEY WAS ARRESTED LAST FRIDAY BY ALTOONA POLICE, WHO SAY THEY FOUND OVER 250 IMAGES OF CHILD PORN ON HER COMPUTER.

 

ARREST MADE IN BURGLARY –

ALTOONA POLICE HAVE MADE AN ARREST IN A BURGLARY THAT HAPPENED ON JANUARY 5TH  IN BELLWOOD. POLICE SAY THAT 19-YEAR-OLD JOHN OZIO OF ALTOONA BROKE INTO A HOUSE ON NORTH 1ST STREET AND STOLE A 12-GAUGE SHOTGUN AND A CHROME-PLATED 22-CALIBER HANDGUN. AT HIS PRELIMINARY HEARING ON TUESDAY, HE’LL FACE CHARGES OF THEFT, BURGLARY, RECEIVING STOLEN PROPERTY, CRIMINAL MISCHIEF AND FIREARMS NOT TO BE CARRIED WITHOUT A LICENSE. THE STOLEN SHOTGUN HAS NOT BEEN RECOVERED. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION IS ASKED TO CONTACT STATE POLICE IN HOLLIDAYSBURG AT 696-6100.

 

MC CORD WANTS MONEY TO REMAIN IN PA –

STATE TREASURER ROB Mc CORD ANNOUNCED YESTERDAY THAT HE’LL JOIN SENATOR JAKE CORMAN IN SUING THE NCAA TO RECOVER THE FIRST INSTALLMENT OF 12-MILLION-DOLLARS IN PENALTIES THAT PENN STATE PAID IN THE WAKE OF THEJERRY SANDUSKY SCANDAL. CITING A “RESPONSIBILITY TO SAFEGUARD THE MONEY FOR THE CITIZENS OF PENNSYLVANIA WHO SUPPORT PENN STATE WITH PUBLIC DOLLARS”, MC CORD SAID THAT THE BEHAVIOR THAT LED TO THE PENALTIES “HAPPENED IN PENNSYLVANIA, THE VICTIMS WERE IN PENNSYLVANIA AND THEREFORE, THE MONEY SHOULD STAY IN PENNSYLVANIA”. A STATE LAW PUT INTO EFFECT EARLIER THIS YEAR REQUIRES THE MONEY TO BE DEPOSITED INTO AN ENDOWMENT FUND WHICH MC CORD WOULD BE IN CHARGE OF. THE NCAA WANTS ONLY A SMALL PORTION OF THE FINE TO REMAIN IN PENNSYLVANIA.

 

SALE APPROVED –

YESTERDAY, A JUDGE GAVE THE APPROVAL FOR THE “SECOND MILE” CHARITY FOUNDED BY JERRY SANDUSKY TO SELL ITS PROPERTY ON SOUTH ATHERTON STREET IN STATE COLLEGE TO A-G-L-2 LIMITED PARTNERSHIP FOR $650,000. ACCORDING TO THE COURT ORDER, PROCEEDS FROM THE SALE MUST BE HELD UNTIL ALL PENDING CIVIL LAWSUITS FILED BY SANDUSKY’S VICTIMS AGAINST THE SECOND MILE ARE RESOLVED OR UNTIL THE COURT ORDERS OTHERWISE. EARLIER THIS MONTH,  THE SECOND MILE’S LAWYERS TRIED TO GET COURT APPROVAL TO TRANSFER $200,000 AND OTHER ASSETS TO ARROW CHILD AND FAMILY MINISTRIES.

 

BLAIR, CENTRE AND CAMBRIA COUNTIES TO RECEIVE WEST NILE FUNDING –

BLAIR, CENTRE AND CAMBRIA COUNTIES WILL BE PART OF 2.2 MILLION DOLLARS IN WEST NILE VIRUS CONTROL PROGRAM GRANTS THIS YEAR. STATE D-E-P SECRETARY MIKE KRANCER SAYS THE FUNDING WILL HELP 26 COUNTIES THAT ARE MOST AFFECTED BY WEST NILE VIRUS TO MONITOR AND CONTROL MOSQUITOS.  BLAIR COUNTY WILL RECEIVE A LITTLE OVER $30,500..CENTRE COUNTY WILL GET $55,200.AND CAMBRIA COUNTY’S SHARE IS ABOUT $62,000.

 

CAMBRIA COUNTY BURGLARY -

POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A BURGLARY IN NANTY GLO, CAMBRIA COUNTY. SOMETIME DURING THE DAY ON WEDNESDAY, SOMEONE BROKE INTO 76-YEAR-OLD MARLENE JAMES’ HOUSE AND STOLE SEVERAL CREDIT CARDS AND AN UNDISCLOSED AMOUNT OF CASH..THEY ALSO TOOK A BOX OF LITTLE DEBBIE CAKES. MAKEOVER ON PSU MAIN CAMPUS –

A POPULAR TOURIST DESTINATION ON THE PENN STATE –UNIVERSITY PARK CAMPUS IS GETTING A MAKE OVER.

CONSTRUCTION CREWS ARE EXPECTED TO BEGIN WORK ON THE NITTANY LION SHRINE ON MAY 6TH. WORKERS WILL IMPROVE BOTH THE LAND AREA AROUND THE SHRINE AND THE LIGHTING. THE WORK IS PART OF THE PENN STATE CLASS OF 2012’S SENIOR GIFT.
