TWO DIE IN CENTRE COUNTY CRASH –

 

TWO PEOPLE DIED IN A TWO-CAR CRASH AT ABOUT 7 ON TUESDAY MORNING IN DENSE FOG ON STATE ROUTE 144 IN POTTER TOWNSHIP, CENTRE COUNTY. POLICE SAY 25-YEAR-OLD ROGER KENNEDY, JR. OF LEWISTOWN AND 50-YEAR-OLD TERRY BITNER OF BELLEVILLE WERE PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. ROUTE 144 WAS CLOSED FOR ABOUT THREE HOURS BETWEEN ROUTE 322 IN POTTERS MILLS AND ROUTE 45 IN OLD FORT.

 

ATTORNEY PLANS APPEAL –

 

A BLAIR COUNTY WOMAN WHO POLICE SAY WAS LINKED TO A GUN USED IN THREE HOMICIDES IN FRANKSTOWN TOWNSHIP LAST DECEMBER WANTS TO APPEAL A BLAIR COUNTY JUDGE’S DECISION TO UPHOLD THE CRIMINAL CHARGES AGAINST HER BEFORE THE CASE GOES TO TRIAL. ACCORDING TO TODAY’S ALTOONA MIRROR, THE ATTORNEY FOR 52-YEAR-OLD BRENDA SHULTZ PLANS TO APPEAL OPINIONS ISSUED BY JUDGE ELIZABETH DOYLE. LUCAS KELLEHER (KELLER) WANTS TO TAKE THE APPEAL TO THE PENNSYLVANIA SUPERIOR COURT PRIOR TO THE SCHEDULED START OF SHULTZ’S BLAIR COUNTY TRIAL. SHULTZ IS ACCUSED OF BEING THE “STRAW PURCHASER” OF A HANDGUN FOR JEFFREY LEE MICHAEL, WHO COMMITTED THE HOMICIDES.

 

 

PRELIMINARY HEARING TODAY -

 

33 YEAR OLD GARY STEHLEY OF ALTOONA IS DUE AT A PRELIMINARY HEARING TODAY. HE’S CHARGED WITH SEXUALLY ASSAULTING A 7 YEAR OLD BOY EARLY LAST YEAR…AND ALSO THREATENING TO KILL HIM IF HE TOLD ANYONE. ALTOONA POLICE PREVIOUSLY ARRESTED STEHLEY FOR ALLEGEDLY MOLESTING A 12 YEAR OLD GIRL IN EARLY 2012. STEHLEY’S BAIL IS SET AT 40-THOUSAND DOLLARS CASH.

 

WOMAN AND CHILDREN INJURED -

 

A ONE-VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON MONDAY IN HUNTINGDON COUNTY RESULTED IN INJURIES TO A  WOMAN AND 4 CHILDREN. STATE POLICE REPORT THAT 38-YEAR-OLD LETTIE SMITH OF HUNTINGDON WAS TRAVELING ON FLUKE ROAD IN PENN TOWNSHIP WHEN SHE BECAME DISTRACTED AND TOOK HER EYES OFF THE ROAD. SMITH’S CAR LEFT THE ROADWAY AND STRUCK A TREE. SMITH SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES..A 13-YEAR-OLD BOY AND 6-YEAR-OLD GIRL WERE FLOWN FROM THE SCENE. A 9-YEAR-OLD GIRL AND 6-MONTH OLD BOY WERE TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE.

 

SUSPECTED THIEF ARRESTED –

 

A SUSPECTED THIEF IN BLAIR COUNTY HAS BEEN ARRESTED.38-YEAR-OLD ROBIN HAMILTON OF SOUTH FORK WAS ARRAIGNED ON TUESDAY ON FORGERY AND THEFT CHARGES CONNECTED TO FIVE INCIDENTS AT THE WALMART AND SAM’S CLUB ON PLANK ROAD IN ALTOONA. ALLEGHENY TOWNSHIP POLICE SAY THAT HAMILTON STOLE WALLETS FROM PURSES THAT WERE LEFT IN SHOPPING CARTS AND THAT BANK CARDS  AND CASH IN THE WALLETS WERE USED TO MAKE PURCHASES. THE INCIDENTS HAPPENED OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS. HAMILTON WAS IDENTIFIED THROUGH TIPS AND SURVEILLLANCE VIDEOS

 

SENATOR PUSHES ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE LEGISLATION

 

 A PENNSYLVANIA SENATOR IS PUSHING LEGISLATION THAT WOULD REGULATE THE SALE OF ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES.  WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA SENATOR TIM SOLOBAY APPEARED BEFORE THE SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE YESTERDAY TO REMIND THEM OF THE IMPORTANCE OF SENATE BILL 1055, WHICH WAS INTRODUCED EARLIER THIS YEAR.  THE BILL WOULD MAKE IT ILLEGAL TO SELL E-CIGARETTES TO ANYONE UNDER THE AGE OF 18.

 

PHONE SCAM WARNING –

 

FERGUSON TOWNSHIP POLICE IN CENTRE COUNTY ARE WARNING RESDIENTS ABOUT A VICIOUS PHONE SCAM HITTING THE STATE. POLICE SAY VICTIMS HAVE BEEN TOLD A RELATIVE HAS EITHER BEEN TAKEN HOSTAGE OR INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND DEMAND MONEY. THE CALLERS  KNOW PERSONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE VICTIMS. A POLICE REPORT SAYS CALLS ARE LIKELY COMING FROM PUERTO RICO AND ARE MADE WITH PRE-PAID CELL PHONES. ANYONE RECEIVING THESE CALLS SHOULD CONTACT POLICE.
