FIRE SPREADING

THE WILDFIRE ON WILL’S MOUNTAIN IN CUMBERLAND VALLEY TOWNSHIP, BEDFORD COUNTY, HAS BEEN BURNING SINCE SATURDAY. IT HAS NOW SCORCHED ABOUT 900 ACRES, BUT CREWS SAY IT IS 70-PERCENT CONTAINED. DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION AND NATURAL RESOURCES PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER GLENN BELL IS URGING THOSE WHO HAVE CABINS OR PROPERTY ON WILL'S MOUNTAIN TO STAY AWAY FROM THE AREA. THE SPEED LIMIT ON ROUTE 220 IN THE CENTERVILLE AREA HAS BEEN REDUCED TO 35 MILES PER HOUR DUE TO SMOKY CONDITIONS. INVESTIGATORS ARE STILL TRYING TO DETERMINE WHAT SPARKED THE BLAZE.

COURTHOUSE BOMB THREAT

THE CAMBRIA COUNTY 911 CENTER HAS RELEASED THE RECORDING OF THE BOMB THREAT MADE AGAINST THE COURTHOUSE IN EBENSBURG ON TUESDAY. IN THE CALL, 50 YEAR OLD STEPHEN JABLONSKI OF JOHNSTOWN USED A FAKE ACCENT AND SAID “WE HAVE PLACED AN EXPLOSIVE DEVICE IN YOUR COURTHOUSE TO BE TRIGGERED AT A TIME OF OUR CHOOSING. YOU HAVE AN UNKNOWN PERIOD OF TIME TO TAKE STEPS TO ELIMINATE CASUALTIES. AHMAD JIHAD.” JABLONSKI’S GIRLFRIEND WAS SCHEDULED TO BE IN COURT TO BE SENTENCED ON A PROBATION VIOLATION AND A RETAIL THEFT. HE TOLD POLICE THEY HAD BEEN DOING DRUGS AND HE DIDN’T WANT HER TO FAIL A DRUG TEST. HEROIN AND CRACK COCAINE WERE SEIZED FROM INSIDE OF HIS APARTMENT. CHARGES ARE PENDING AGAINST JABLONSKI’S GIRLFRIEND. HIS PRELIMINARY HEARING IS SCHEDULED TUESDAY.

FATAL BIKE ACCIDENT

STATE COLLEGE POLICE ARE LOOKING FOR ANY WITNESSES TO A FATAL BICYCLE CRASH THAT HAPPENED SATURDAY AFTERNOON. 85-YEAR-OLD DUANE OLSON OF STATE COLLEGE COLLIDED WITH A FENCE AND A CINDERBLOCK WALL ALONG SOUTH ATHERTON STREET ABOUT 1PM. OLSON WAS RIDING A BRIGHT BLUE TREK MOUONTAIN BIKE, WEARING A WHITE HAT, AND CARRYING A CANE. INVESTIGATORS SAY HE DID NOT SUFFER A MEDICAL EMERGENCY PRIOR TO THE CRASH. ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING

ALTOONA POLICE SAY A 29 YEAR OLD ALTOONA MAN ACCIDENTALLY SHOT HIMSELF WHILE DRIVING ALONG ROUTE 764 EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING. FOR SOME REASON, HE WAS HANDLING A GLOCK 9 MILLIMETER WHICH WENT OFF AND HIT HIM IN THE LEG. THE VICTIM DROVE HIMSELF TO THE 58TH STREET SHEETZ AND POLICE WERE CALLED. HE’S NOT FACING CHARGES SINCE HE WAS LICENSED TO CARRY THE WEAPON.

DOG ATTACK

56 YEAR OLD BOBBY WILLIAMS OF JOHNSTOWN TELLS THE TRIBUNE DEMOCRAT HE ENDURED 2 HOURS OF SURGERY, SUFFERED A HEART ATTACK, AND FEARS HE MAY NEVER AGAIN BE ABLE TO FULLY USE HIS RIGHT ARM. THIS AFTER HE WAS MAULED BY 2 PIT BULLS FRIDAY AT THE CORNER OF POPLAR AND PINE STREETS IN HORNERSTOWN. A NEIGHBOR SHOT AND WOUNDED ONE OF THE DOGS AND A POLICE OFFICER KILLED THE OTHER ONE. POLICE CHIEF CRAIG FOUST SAYS THE FAMILY THAT OWNED THE ANIMALS IS EXPECTED TO BE CHARGED WITH HARBORING DANGEROUS DOGS.

KILLER WON’T GET OUT EARLY

THE ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS THAT A BLAIR COUNTY JUDGE HAS DISMISSED PETITIONS FILED LAST WEEK BY 47 YEAR OLD WILLIAM SALTSMAN. HE’S BEEN IN PRISON SINCE 1987 AND WAS ASKING FOR AN EARLY RELEASE, CLAIMING HE HAS SATISFIED HIS SENTENCE. SALTSMAN WAS SENTENCED TO LIFE PLUS 12 TO 25 YEARS AFTER HE PLEADED GUILTY TO FIRST DEGREE MURDER AND ROBBERY FOR HOLDING UP REIGHARD’S GAS STATION IN ALTOONA…THEN KILLING THE 21 YEAR OLD NIGHT CLERK AT TUCKAHOE PARK.

NEW PATERNO STATUE

A NEW STATUE OF LEGENDARY PENN STATE FOOTBALL COACH JOE PATERNO COULD BE UP IN DOWNTOWN STATE COLLEGE BY NOVEMBER OF NEXT YEAR.
