DEAL FOR NURSES?

UPMC ALTOONA ANNOUNCED LAST NIGHT THAT THEY HAVE REACHED A TENTATIVE CONTRACT AGREEMENT WITH THE SERVICE EMPLOYEES INTERNATION UNION, REPRESENTING MORE THAN 800 REGISTERED NURSES. EARLIER THIS MONTH, THE NURSES STAGED A ONE-DAY STRIKE AND THE HOSPITAL BROUGHT IN REPLACEMENT WORKERS FOR A FEW DAYS. THE DEAL MUST STILL BE VOTED ON BY THE NURSES WHO CLAIM THE MAJOR ISSUE WAS STAFFING. NO OTHER DETAILS HAVE BEEN MADE AVAILABLE.

MURDER CHARGES STAND

A CENTRE COUNTY JUDGE RULED YESTERDAY THAT 22 YEAR OLD DANIELLE PACKER OF BELLEFONTE CAN BE CHARGED WITH MURDER AND SHE SHOULD GO TO TRIAL. ACCORDING TO THE CENTRE DAILY TIMES, PACKER TOLD POLICE SHE HAD BEEN HUFFING CANNED AIR CLEANER IN AUGUST OF 2012 BEFORE HER CAR CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE, KILLING 25 YEAR OLD MATTHEW SNYDER OF HOWARD. PACKER’S PUBLIC DEFENDER SAYS A MURDER CHARGE IS NOT APPROPRIATE BECAUSE THERE WAS NO MALICE. PACKER REMAINS IN THE CENTRE COUNTY PRISON ON 500-THOUSAND DOLLARS BAIL.

SENTENCING DAY FOR KILLER

IN HUNTINGDON COUNTY COURT TODAY, SENTENCING IS SCHEDULED FOR 66 YEAR OLD KENNETH LEIGHTY OF ALTOONA WHO PLEADED GUILTY TO 3RD DEGREE MURDER FOR BLUDGEONING HIS DAUGHTER-IN-LAW TO DEATH 14 YEARS AGO AND LEAVING HER BODY ON HIS PROPERTY IN WARRIORS MARK TOWNSHIP. LEIGHTY WILL GET 7 TO 14 YEARS IN PRISON FOR THE MURDER OF 23 YEAR OLD SHERRY LEIGHTY WHO WAS GETTING DIVORCED FROM HIS SON IN 1999. LEIGHTY LED INVESTIGATORS TO HER BODY ON MAY 1ST OF LAST YEAR.

ATTORNEY’S LAWSUIT MOVING FORWARD

EBENSBURG ATTORNEY TIM BURNS IS STILL RECOVERING FROM A CONCUSSION AFTER BEING CLUBBED BY HANDCUFFED DEATH-ROW INMATE ANDRE STATON DURING A BLAIR COUNTY COURTHOUSE HEARING IN MAY. YESTERDAY, A SENIOR VISITING JUDGE FROM CENTRE COUNTY REFUSED TO THROW OUT THE CIVIL LAWSUIT BURNS FILED AGAINST BLAIR COUNTY…THE COMMISSIONERS, THE SHERIFF, 3 DEPUTIES WHO WERE IN THE COURTROOM AT THE TIME, AND SEVERAL OTHERS. THE DEFENDANTS HAVE 20 DAYS TO RESPOND TO HIS COMPLAINT. THE JUDGE DISMISSED BLAIR COUNTY JUDGE DANIEL MILLIRON AND DISTRICT ATTORNEY RICHARD CONSIGLIO FROM THE LAWSUIT.

COUNTRY CLUB FIRE FIRE BROKE OUT LAST NIGHT IN A TRASH CAN IN A MEN’S BATHROOM AT PARK HILLS COUNTRY CLUB IN LAKEMONT.
