An investigation by the Altoona area school board has determined THAT RETIRING superintendent Dr. Dennis Murray gave TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OF raises OVER SEVERAL YEARS WITHOUT SCHOOL BOARD APPROVAL to himself and 10 others. ACCORDING TO THE REPORT, ONE EMPLOYEE WAS SLATED FOR A 4-PERCENT RAISE IN 2010, BUT Murray AUTHORIZED 13-PERCENT TO TOTAL 107-THOUSAND DOLLARS. Murray… who Has been on ADMINISTRATIVE AND MEDICAL leave since March…DID NOT ATTEND LAST night’S MEETING, but he TELLS THE ALTOONA MIRROR AN INVESTIGATION BY THE DEPARTMENT OF THE AUDITOR GENERAL WILL PROVE THAT HE’S INNOCENT. ATV DRIVER DIES

39 YEAR OLD BRIAN BUYNACK OF Jackson Township, CAMBRIA COUNTY, died YESTERDAY FROM injuries he sustained in an a-T-V CRASH in Nanty Glo on May 5. AUTHORITIES SAY Buynack LOST CONTROL ON A STEEP EMBANKMENT AND FELL ABOUT 15 FEET INTO BLACKLICK CREEK. Buynack was not wearing a helmet and his blood-alcohol level was POINT-21 PERCENT.

Tyrone police LOOKING FOR WITNESSES

state police want to talk to anyone who witnessed a disturbance near the tyrone post office between 7 and 8 tuesday night. 3 males and 3 females were involved and the incident continued into antis township and back to tyrone boro. troopers say a red dodge caravan was seen going the wrong way, recklessly chasing a teal and gray-colored ford f-150 pickup.

SANDUSKY SCANDAL

Members of Penn State's board of trustees YESTERDAY outlined the changes implemented as result of the Jerry Sandusky scandal. THEY SAY THE reforms have improved the university and might help them persuade the NCAA to reconsider its penalties, INCLUDING 60 MILLION DOLLARS IN FINES. In an INTERVIEW with The Associated Press, board Chairman Keith Masser and longtime board member Joel Myers SAY THE CHANGES includE training staff in child abuse recognition and reporting, as well as cutting the governor and university president from the board. The school is still working to implement a long list Of governance and oversight changes suggested a year ago in the Freeh report. The 2 trustees say penn state still intends to honor joe Paterno but they haven’t decided how or when.

Penn State IS MAKING PLANS TO host A second conference on child abuse. The EVENT will feature several speakers, including Teresa Huizar, from the National Children's Alliance, as well as other experts in child abuse investigations. The CONFERENCE IS SET FOR September 25th at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel and will be live-streamed on campus. Attendance Will be by invitation only.

A STRANGER ADMINISTERED C-P-R UNTIL PARAMEDICS ARRIVED. DOCTORS AT ALTOONA REGIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM USED THERAPEUTIC HYPOTHERMIA TO REDUCE THE POSSIBILITY OF IRREPARABLE DAMAGE WHEN THEY GOT HIS HEART BEATING AGAIN. MARTELLETTI HAS HAD NUMEROUS HEART PROBLEMS SINCE 1999.
