2 FIRES…ONE AT BLAIR COUNTY PRISON

FIRE CREWS WERE CALLED TO THE BLAIR COUNTY PRISON IN HOLLIDAYSBURG WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON WHEN A FIRE BROKE OUT IN A COMMERCIAL DRYER INSIDE THE LAUNDRY AREA. THE FLAMES SPREAD TO THE ROOF AND THE ENTIRE PRISON WAS LOCKED DOWN. VISITORS HAD TO LEAVE AND SEVERAL STREETS IN THE BORO WERE SHUT DOWN. FIREFIGHTERS SAY IT DOESN’T APPEAR THAT THE BLAZE WAS INTENTIONALLY SET AND NO ONE WAS INJURED.

FIRE DESTROYED A HOUSE FIRE ON AYVA LANE IN SPRING MILLS, CENTRE COUNTY, WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON…DISPLACING A FAMILY OF 9… INCLUDING NATE AND SARAH HAUPT AND THEIR 7 CHILDREN. THE FAMILY WAS NOT HOME WHEN THE FLAMES BROKE OUT AND THEIR DOG DID NOT MAKE IT OUT. FAMILY MEMBERS THINK A WOOD-BURNING STOVE MAY HAVE SPARKED THE FIRE AND THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES.

PITTSBURGH SCHOOL SHOOTING

A SUSPECT IS IN CUSTODY IN CONNECTION WITH A SHOOTING NEAR BRASHEAR HIGH SCHOOL IN PITTSBURGH. AJ WILLET WAS ARRESTED AFTER 3 MALE STUDENTS WERE SHOT NEAR THE SCHOOL JUST AFTER CLASSES LET OUT WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. POLICE BELIEVE THE SHOOTING HAPPENED AS A RESULT OF THE ALLEGED ASSAULT AND ROBBERY OF WILLET AT THE SCHOOL LAST MONTH.

FATAL WRECKS

A HUNTINGDON COUNTY MAN IS DEAD FOLLOWING A CAR/PEDESTRIAN CRASH YESTERDAY AFTERNOON ALONG ROUTE 522 IN WAYNE TOWNSHIP, MIFFLIN COUNTY. STATE POLICE SAY 74 YEAR OLD KENNETH LANDIS OF PETERSBURG WAS WALKING ALONG THE EASTBOUND SHOULDER. DONALD CRAMER OF LEWISTOWN WAS WESTBOUND AND TRYING TO TURN INTO A BUSINESS. HE REALIZED HE COULDN’T MAKE THE TURN AND STOPPED IN THE EASTBOUND LANES. ROBERT BAKER OF MCVEYTOWN SWERVED TO AVOID CRAMER’S CAR AND STRUCK LANDIS. THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES.

STATE POLICE IN CENTRE COUNTY HAVE RELEASED THE NAME OF THE 79-YEAR-OLD WOMAN KILLED TUESDAY EVENING AFTER HER CAR COLLIDED WITH A TANKER.TROOPERS SAY DOLORES WEAVER OF PORT MATILDA WAS LEAVING THE SPORTSMAN’S CLUB PARKING LOT ON SOUTH EAGLE VALLEY ROAD AROUND 9PM AND SHE PULLED INTO THE PATH OF A TRACTOR TRAILER. WEAVER WAS NOT WEARING A SEAT BELT. THE TRUCKDRIVER WAS NOT HURT.

STATE AND LOCAL DRUG AGENTS YESTERDAY ARRESTED 33 YEAR OLD MAURICE GOLDEN OF BELLEFONTE FOR TRAFFICKING HEROIN IN ALTOONA. OFFICERS BOUGHT 30 BAGS OF DRUGS THROUGH A CONFIDENTIAL INFORMANT…THEN TOOK GOLDEN INTO CUSTODY WITHOUT INCIDENT.

FORMER CENTRE COUNTY ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY STEVE SLOANE IS NO LONGER PERMITTED TO PRACTICE LAW IN PENNSYLVANIA. HE IS BEING DISBARRED AFTER PLEADING GUILTY TO SELLING MARIJUANA WHILE WORKING AS A DEFENSE LAWYER IN 2011. SLOANE WAS SENTENCED TO 7 YEARS PROBATION.

ACCORDING TO STATECOLLEGE.COM, A HEARING IS SCHEDULED FOR JANUARY 9TH SO A JUDGE CAN DECIDE WHETHER FORMER THE SUIT SHOULD BE DELAYED PENDING THE CRIMINAL TRIAL. AFTER JUST A HALF HOUR OF DELIBERATIONS, A BLAIR COUNTY JURY YESTERDAY FOUND FORMER SAINT FRANCIS UNIVERSITY STUDENT KALIL WYNN NOT GUILTY OF RAPE. A PENN STATE ALTOONA STUDENT CLAIMED HE ASSAULTED HER IN NOVEMBER OF LAST YEAR. WYNN CONVINCED THE JURY THAT THE ACT WAS CONSENSUAL.
