NEW PSU PRESIDENT

FLORIDA STATE PRESIDENT DR. ERIC BARRON HAS A NEW JOB. IN MAY, HE WILL BECOME THE 18TH PENN STATE PRESIDENT, REPLACING THE RETIRING RODNEY ERICKSON. BARRON PREVIOUSLY WORKED AT THE UNIVERSITY FOR 20 YEARS, AS A PROFESSOR…AND THEN DEAN OF THE COLLEGE OF EARTH AND MINERAL SCIENCES. HE WAS UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED BY PENN STATE’S BOARD OF TRUSTEES YESTERDAY. BARRON HAS A 5 YEAR CONTRACT WITH A BASE SALARY OF 800-THOUSAND DOLLARS PER YEAR. IT ALSO INCLUDES ANNUAL INCENTIVES OF 200-THOUSAND DOLLARS AND A 1 MILLION DOLLAR PAYMENT AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT.

HE’S CHARGED WITH FIRING SEVERAL GUNSHOT INTO GEORGE’S BAR IN DYSART BACK IN OCTOBER, AFTER BEING KICKED OUT OF THE TAVERN. ROBERT EDGAR JUNIOR OF COALPORT WAS SHOT IN THE HIP. SHICK CLAIMS THE INCIDENT “ESCALATED” AFTER SOMEONE PULLED A KNIFE ON HIM IN THE BAR EARLIER IN THE EVENING.

BURGLARIES IN CAMBRIA COUNTY

BURGLARS TARGETED THE SOUTH FORK AND SUMMERHILL BORO VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENTS PLUS THE SUMMERHILL MUNICIPAL BUILDING OVER THE WEEKEND…AND NOW CAMBRIA COUNTY CRIMESTOPPERS IS OFFERING A REWARD FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO ARRESTS. IN SOUTH FORK, THE DOORS WERE SMASHED IN AND THE THIEVES STOLE RADIOS AND A TV ALONG WITH SEVERAL OTHER ITEMS. DOWN THE ROAD AT THE SUMMERHILL FIRE DEPARTMENT, THE SUSPECTS DAMAGED THE DOORS, BUT COULDN’T GET IN SO THEY WENT NEXT DOOR AND STOLE TOOLS FROM THE MUNICIPAL BUILDING. AFTER THOUSANDS OF CONCERTS, PROFESSIONAL BULL RIDING, MONSTER TRUCKS, BIG 10 BASKETBALL, MOTOCROSS, W-W-E WRESTLING, AND THE RINGLING BROTHERS & BARNUM & BAILEY CIRCUS…THE 19 YEAR OLD BRYCE JORDAN CENTER WILL CLOSE FOR ROOF AND FLOOR REPAIRS AFTER SPRING COMMENCEMENT ON MAY 10TH, AND IT WON’T REOPEN UNTIL SUMMER COMMENCEMENT AUG. 16TH. ACCORDING TO THE CENTRE DAILY TIMES, THE OFFICE OF PHYSICAL PLANT ESTIMATES THE MAINTENANCE WILL COST AROUND 4-POINT-5 MILLION DOLLARS. THE LAST NON-PENN STATE EVENTS ON THE SCHEDULE BEFORE CLOSING ARE THE JASON ALDEAN SHOW MAY 2ND AND A SHOW BY COMEDIAN BILL MAHER THE FOLLOWING NIGHT.
