TEEN KILLED/OTHERS INJURED

A fatal crash AROUND 7:30 LAST NIGHT ON KETTLE ROAD IN SINKING VALLEY, TYRONE TOWNSHIP, BLAIR COUNTY. State Police SAY 18 YEAR OLD JORDAN DODSON was killed WHEN THE CAR HE WAS RIDING IN SLAMMED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE DRIVEN BY 26 YEAR OLD KAYLEE HARPER OF TYRONE WHO WAS TRAVELING WITH HER 2 CHILDREN. THE OTHER DRIVER, 18 YEAR OLD SUSAN SCHEZZINI OF ALTOONA, SUFFERED SERIOUS INJURIES WHEN SHE WAS THROWN FROM THE WRECKAGE. HER 2 OTHER PASSENGERS WERE JUVENILES AND THEY WERE ALL TAKEN TO UPMC ALTOONA.

POLICE SHOOT SUSPECT

IN INDIANA COUNTY, State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that LEFT A FORMER SHERIFF’S DEPUTY DEAD. JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT SUNDAY, Troopers were called to A HOME on Route 56 IN BRUSH VALLEY FOr a domestic dispute. 55 YEAR OLD GARY WISSINGER APPARENTLY POINTED A HANDGUN AT THE COPS AND THEY opened fire. WISSINGER WENT BACK INSIDE AND A STANDOFF BEGAN. HE WAS LATER FOUND DEAD, BUT HIS WIFE WAS NOT HURT. TROOPERS HAD BEEN called to thAT SAMe home for a domestic dispute a few months AGO.

PROTECTING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS

TRACY RAYMOND MISCAVISH WAS SHOT BY HER HUSBAND MARK, A FORMER STATE TROOPER, INSIDE THE PHILIPSBURG COUNTRY GARDEN MARKET STORE BACK IN MARCH…NOW STATE REPRESENTATIVE SCOTT CONKLIN HAS INTRODUCED A BILL THAT WOULD ALLOW THE COURTS TO USE AN ELECTRONIC G-P-S TO MONITOR AN ALLEGED ABUSER IN CERTAIN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CASES. TRACY had a P-F-A against MARK WHO KILLED her, THEN HIMSELF. 21 states in the US currently use this type of  monitoring system AND Conklin says theRE IS A LOT OF support fOr HIS legislatION. if thE law is passed, the court will determine on a case-by-case basis who will receive the monitoring device.

GOVERNOR TOM CORBETT’S GENERAL COUNSEL, JAMES SCHULTZ, SAYS THE ADMINISTRATION WILL NOT APPEAL A FEDERAL JUDGE’S DISMISSAL OF A LAWSUIT AGAINST THE NCAA WHICH SOUGHT FOR A REVERSAL OF THE SANCTIONS AGAINST PENN STATE, INCLUDING 60 MILLION DOLLARS IN FINES. HOWEVER, SCHULTZ TELLS THE PITTSBURGH POST GAZETTE THAT THE RULING COULD INDICATE AN OPEN-NESS TO OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SANCTIONS.

Penn state officials say fundraising efforts are doing better this year. after a drop in donations last year, total alumni giving reached nearly 88-million dollars in the year that ended in june, up from nearly 71-million. The total amount donated in the last fiscal year was nearly 238 million. It was the second highest year on record. the total number of donors rose to an all-time high and the university is 92-percent of the way toward meeting a 2 billion dollar goal for a campaign that began in 2007.

THE DUBOIS AREA WAS VERY HARD HIT BY RECENT FLOODING AND NOW The Red Cross IS extendING hours this week TO ASSIST THOSE affected IN CLEARFIELD AND JEFFERSON counties. Delivery services are available at the DuBois chapter office from 10AM to 7 pm through TOMORROW.  Starting Thursday, anyone who wants to speak with Red Cross representatives can visit the chapter site during its regular normal business hours FROM 9 to 4. Disaster workers ARE STILL DOING damage assessmentS. AS OF SUNDAY, the Red Cross had opened cases for 195 families.

JOB CHANGES ARE BEING PHASED IN THIS WEEK FOLLOWING THE SALE OF VALLEY VIEW NURSING HOME. SOME WORKERS THERE CAN “BUMP”INTO OTHER COUNTY JOBS UNDER THEIR UNION CONTRACT.

GETTING RID OF THE DEATH TAX

STATE Senator Dominic Pileggi IS TRYING TO kill the “Death Tax”. A bill is now on governor TOM CORBETT's desk that would eliminate the inheritance tax on family owned businesses with 50 employees or less. Right now, business owners have to pay an inheritance tax if the previous owner dies. It is 4-POINT-5-PERCENT for children and 12-PERCENT For a sibling to take over. Pileggi got a similar bill passed last year eliminating inheritance taxes for family owned farms.

HEINZ IMPROVING

Teresa Heinz Kerry’s condition has been upgraded from critical to fair. According to NBC news, the wife of Secretary of State John Kerry and heir to the Heinz ketchup fortune suffered a grand mal seizure Sunday. She was taken to a Nantucket hospital and then flown to Massachusetts General in Boston.

THE CITY OF ALTOONA will hold A TOWN HALL MEETING tonight TO DISCUSS ALTOONA REGIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM’s MERGER WITH U-P-M-C. the deal, completed july 1st, led to the creation of the new upmc altoona. THE SESSION is AT 6PM AT THE ALTOONA HIGH SCHOOL AUDITORIUM. HOSPITAL REPRESENTATIVES WILL ATTEND ALONG WITH LOCAL, COUNTY, AND STATE GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS. state attorney general kathleen kane has said upmc must negotiate a contract with highmark so thousands of people can get care at the hospital.
