FRIENDS OF Jackson Township firefighter GARY GONGLOFF WILL BE RECEIVED TODAY FROM 2 TO 8PM at Askew-Houser Funeral Home in Nanty Glo. HE WAS killed in a tractor accident AT HIS HOME ON SATURDAY. Gongloff’S FUNERAL MASS IS TOMORROW AT 10AM at SAINt Mary’s Catholic Church in Nanty Glo. Gongloff was a 16-year member of the Jackson township department and also an E-M-T.

THE PILOT DIED WHEN An ultralight aircraft crashed LAST NIGHT at a privately owned airstrip in McIntyre, INDIANA COUNTY YESTERDAY. The airstrip is used primarily for ultralights. State police and the faa are investigating.

50 year old Richard Lee Eckard of Altoona is in THE Blair County Prison chargeD WITH aggravated assault of a police officer.
AUTHORITIES SAY Eckard called THE COPS about another incident Just before 5pm Monday. WHEN Officers ARRIVED ON 8TH AVENUE, THEY saw Eckard TRYING to drive off AND HE appearED intoxicated. ECKARD failED sobriety tests AND THEN tried to head butt AN officer. once HE WAS inside A POLICE cruiser, HE smashed his head against the window AND HAD TO BE pepper sprayED.

johnstown crash/power outage

Thousands of people in the Moxham section of Johnstown have no electricity this morning after a car accident about 1am. police say a vehicle hit a pole along bridge street, which knocked out a transformer. No word on condition of the driver. The road is closed from the Ferndale Bridge to Central Avenue.

football players support lawsuit

THE CENTRE DAILY TIMES REPORTS THAT More than 325 former Penn State football players and coaches spanning 6 decades are voicing their support for a lawsuit aimed at ending the NCAA sanctions. ACCORDING TO a letter sent YESTERday by letterman Brian Masella, the players and coaches have signed a statement backing the LAWSUIT BROUGHT BY the family of the late Joe Paterno as well as some trustees, faculty members, former coaches and former players. They say the NCAA ignored its own rules when it levied the penalties against Penn State after former FBI director Louis Freeh’s investigation. OFFICIALS SAY THE SPENDING PLAN IS balanced without a tax hike AND real estate taxes WILL remain at 55 mills. MEMBERS RECENTLY voteD to close WRIGHT AND WASHINGTON-JEFFERSON elementary schools.

Altoona Regional Health System’S Plans TO merge WITH the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center ARE GOING FULL STEAM AHEAD. Last week, the UPMC board approved the DEAL…AND The board of Altoona Regional will vote this week.
Altoona Regional President and CEO Jerry Murray sent a letter to employees LAST WEEK saYing that the merger is on schedule for July 1ST. the state attorney general WILL THEN review the TRANSACTION.

A big crowd turned out after The Goodyear Blimp LANDED AT THE Somerset County airport Monday. THE BLIMP HAD BEEN COVERING THE U-S OPEN GOLF TOURNAMENT IN PHILADELPHIA…THEN SPENT THE NIGHT IN SOMERSET. It will take off THIS morning around 9 AND HEAD home TO Akron, Ohio.
