DEADLY WRECK

GUILTY OF MURDER

A JURY YESTERDAY DELIBERATED OVER LUNCH FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS BEFORE FINDING FORMER CAMBRIA COUNTY PRISON INMATE WILLIAM CRAMER GUILTY OF FIRST-DEGREE MURDER. THE 22-YEAR-OLD STRANGLED HIS CELLMATE, 28 YEAR OLD WILLIAM SHERRY OF NORTHERN CAMBRIA, WITH A BEDSHEET LAST YEAR. CRAMER….AN ADMITTED WHITE SUPREMACIST…HAD ACCUSED SHERRY OF FATHERING A BI-RACIAL CHILD. HE WILL RECEIVE A LIFE SENTENCE WITHOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF PAROLE.

ASSAULTS IN ST. COLLEGE

MORE DETAILS ABOUT AN INCIDENT IN STATE COLLEGE OVER HOMECOMING WEEKEND. 19 YEAR OLD PENN STATE HARRISBURG STUDENT CLAUDIUS TAYLOR, IS ACCUSED OF GRABBING AND VIOLENTLY ASSAULTING 2 WOMEN HE APPROACHED ON THE STREET EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. POLICE SAY TAYLOR GROPED ONE WOMAN…THEN DRAGGED HER INTO A YARD. SHE HIT HIM IN THE HEAD WITH A BUCKET AND HE TOOK HER CELLPHONE AND RAN OFF. THE SECOND WOMAN WAS HIT IN THE HEAD SEVERAL TIMES IN FAIRMOUNT PARK THEN TAYLOR PINNED HER TO THE GROUND. POLICE HEARD HER CALLS FOR HELP AND TAYLOR FLED THE SCENE. HE WAS CAUGHT AFTER A 6-BLOCK CHASE. TAYLOR IS IN THE CENTRE COUNTY PRISON ON 100-THOUSAND DOLLARS BAIL WITH A PRELIMINARY SCHEDULED NEXT WEDNESDAY.

POLICE PEPPERSPRAY FOOTBALL FAN

SOCIAL MEDIA IS BUZZING WITH A VIDEO OF A MICHIGAN FOOTBALL FAN BEING PEPPERSPRAYED BY POLICE AT BEAVER STADIUM SATURDAY. PENN STATE ASSISTANT POLICE CHIEF BILL MOERSCHBACHER SAYS THE COP WAS DEFENDING HIMSELF. THE MAN WAS REPORTEDLY BEING ROWDY AND WAS ASKED TO LEAVE THE STADIUM, BUT HE GRABBED THE RAILING AND REFUSED TO GO. ONE WITNESS TOLD WTAJ THE MICHIGAN FAN STARTED THROWING SWINGS WHEN HE GOT PEPPER SPRAYED. POLICE ARE REVIEWING THE INCIDENT.

PENN STATE’S COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE JERRY SANDUSKY SCANDAL TOPPED 50 MILLION DOLLAR AS OF THE END OF JULY. THE UNIVERSITY SPENT MORE THAN 1 MILLION DOLLARS IN LEGAL COSTS SINCE THE END OF JUNE. IN JULY, 56 YEAR OLD THOMAS SHAWLEY OF MILESBURG FAILED TO SHOW UP FOR HIS TRIAL AND WAS SENTENCED TO UP TO 4 YEARS IN PRISON ON ANIMAL CRUELTY CHARGES, BUT HE WAS GRANTED A NEW TRIAL…AND YESTERDAY HE WAS AGAIN FOUND GUILTY OF ALLOWING A HERD OF BEEF CATTLE TO STARVE OVER THE WINTER ON HIS FARM. SHAWLEY WAS ALSO CONVICTED OF FAILING TO PROPERLY DISPOSE OF DEAD DOMESTIC ANIMALS. SENTENCING IS SCHEDULED DECEMBER 2ND.

THE STATE IS PICKING UP THE TAB TO KEEP AMTRAK PASSENGER TRAINS ROLLING THROUGH CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA…AND THE ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS THAT RIDERSHIP ON “THE PENNSYLVANIAN” IS UP 3-POINT-3 PERCENT IN FISCAL YEAR 2013. TICKET REVENUE INCREASED BY MORE THAN 1 MILLION DOLLARS…EVEN THOUGH RIDERSHIP FROM ALTOONA AND JOHNSTOWN DROPPED SLIGHTLY. MORE RIDERS ARE RIDING THE TRAIN FROM TYRONE AND HUNTINGDON. THE THEME FOR THE 2014 PENN STATE DANCE MARATHON HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED. MEMBERS OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE SAY IT WILL BE “REDEFINE THE POSSIBILITIES.” THIS YEAR’S THON WILL BE HELD FEBRUARY 21ST THROUGH THE 23RD. PROCEEDS BENEFIT THE FAMILIES OF CHILDREN FIGHTING PEDIATRIC CANCER AT PENN STATE’S HERSHEY MEDICAL CENTER.
