MCQUEARY CLAIMS ABUSE ACCORDING TO A REPORT IN ESPN THE MAGAZINE, MIKE MCQUEARY TOLD SEVERAL PENN STATE PLAYERS THAT HE WAS SEXUALLY ABUSED AS A CHILD. THE AUTHOR OF THE ESPN ARTICLE, DON VAN NATTA JUNIOR, SAYS THE CLOSED-DOOR MEETING BETWEEN MCQUEARY AND PLAYERS WAS HELD NOVEMBER 9TH, 2011, JUST DAYS AFTER THE JERRY SANDUSKY SCANDAL BROKE ON CAMPUS. THE REPORT SAYS MCQUEARY DID NOT MENTION WHO ABUSED HIM OR FOR HOW LONG. MCQUEARY COMMENTED ABOUT JOE PATERNO, SAYING “I LOVE THAT MAN MORE THAN YOU CAN EVER POSSIBLY SAY. HE HANDLED THIS THING IN THE BEST WAY HE COULD. WAS IT FOOLPROOF OR PERFECT? NO. BUT I DIDN’T HANDLE THIS IN A FOOLPROOF OR PERFECT WAY EITHER. I AM LOYAL TO HIM TO THIS DAY.” FRIENDS OF MCQUEARY ALSO DISCUSS HIS COMPULSIVE GAMBLING WHILE A PLAYER AT PENN STATE.

HIT BY TRAIN

43 YEAR OLD BRIAN TRENT OF SOMERSET IS IN SERIOUS CONDITION AT JOHNSTOWN’S MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTER AFTER HIS CAR WAS HIT BY A TRAIN ALONG GEIGER ROAD IN SOMERSET TOWNSHIP TUESDAY MORNING. STATE POLICE SAY THE TRAIN’S LIGHTS WERE FLASHING AND THE WHISTLE WAS BLOWING, BUT TRENT TRIED TO CROSS THE TRACKS ANYWAY.

CABIN DESTROYED

FIRE DESTROYED A SEASONAL CAMP ON LINCOLN HIGHWAY IN NAPIER TOWNSHIP, BEDFORD COUNTY, EARLY TUESDAY MORNING. THAT’S NEAR SHAWNEE STATE PARK. THE BLAZE BROKE OUT AROUND 4AM, BUT NO ONE WAS INSIDE AT THE TIME. AN INVESTIGATION IS UNDERWAY.

BLAIR COUNTY REASSESSMENT

BLAIR COUNTY COMMISSIONERS VOTED TUESDAY TO MOVE FORWARD WITH A REASSESSMENT….THE FIRST SINCE 1958. IT COULD COST UP TO 4 MILLION DOLLARS, BUT OFFICIALS SAY THEY HAVE NO CHOICE BECAUSE THERE ARE SIGNIFICANT PROBLEMS WITH UNEVEN PROPERTY TAXES COLLECTED ON SIMILAR PROPERTIES. THE REASSESSMENT COULD TAKE ABOUT 2 YEARS TO COMPLETE. OFFICIALS HAVE HIRED A LAW FIRM TO HELP SELECT A FIRM TO DO THE REASSESSMENT, AND THEN TO MONITOR THE PROCESS.

GAS PRICES KEEP CLIMBING

ALTOONA-AREA DRIVERS ARE PAYING $3.69, BUT TRIPLE A FUEL GAUGE SAYS WESTERN PA GAS PRICES ROSE ONE CENT TO AN AVERAGE OF $3.66 THIS WEEK. TODAY’S NATIONAL AVERAGE IS $3.46…3 CENTS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN ONE WEEK AGO AND 18 CENTS MORE THAN ONE MONTH AGO. NATIONAL PRICES REMAIN 29 CENTS PER GALLON LESS THAN THE SAME DATE LAST YEAR.
