as predicted, VOTER Turnout was QUITE low for yesterday’s municipal primaries.

ONE OF THE BIGGEST LOCAL RACES WAS FOR BLAIR COUNTY JUDGE. DAVE ANDREWS CAME OUT ON TOP IN THE DEMOCRATIC VOTE WHILE WADE KAGARISE TOOK THE REPUBLICAN NOMINATION. they will face off in the fall.

IN THE CITY OF ALTOONA’S REFERENDUM QUESTION, VOTERS AGREED TO GO WITH A HOME RULE FORM OF GOVERNMENT.

incumbents DID WELL in the State College school board of directors race. Board President Penni Fishbaine and current board members David Hutchinson and Jim Leous finished in the top 4 on both the Republican and Democrat tickets and will appear on both sides of the ballot in November. Challenger Scott Fozard will be the 4th name on the ballot.

FOR STATE COLLEGE BORO COUNCIL, DemocratS CHOSE incumbent Thomas Daubert, Theresa Lafer, and Evan Myers. The oNLY Republican, Richard Garis, is also moving on TO THE NOVEMBER ELECTION.

For mayor, incumbent Elizabeth Goreham won the Democratic nomination unopposed. In November, she will face Republican Ron Madrid.

IN HUNTINGDON COUNTY, CURRENT DISTRICT ATTORNEY GEORGE ZANIC DEFEATED GREGORY JACKSON IN THE PRIMARY FOR COUNTY JUDGE.

WILLIAM WALTERS GOT THE MOST VOTES FOR HUNTINGDON COUNTY SHERIFF.

JOHNSTOWN’S Democratic voters ELECTED
Pete Vizza, Dave Vitovich, MARIE MOCK, AND NUNZIO JOHNCOLA TO CITY COUNCIL.In the mayor’s race, Frank Janakovic, EARNed 83-POINT-7 percent OF THE VOTE OVER his opponent, the late Dr. Anthony Gergely.
No Republicans were on the ballot for City Council or mayor, BUT there were SOME write-in votes on the G-O-P
balloT.

JACK MCKAY JUNIOR WON THE PRIMARY FOR STATE SUPERIOR COURT JUDGE.

FOR ALTOONA SCHOOL BOARD, VOTERS CHOSE CROSS-FILED CANDIDATES JOHN DONLEY AND JOHN KLINGEMAN TO ADVANCE TO THE GENERAL ELECTION. ALSO EARNING SPOTS ON THE REPUBLICAN BALLOT WERE JUDITH BERRYMAN AND INCUMBENT DICK LOCKARD. OTHER DEMOCRATIC NOMINEES ARE INCUMBENT ELIZABETH CHAPMAN AND BERRYMAN.

IN BLAIR COUNTY, 25-POINT-4 PERCENT OF REGISTERED REPUBLICANS WENT TO THE POLLS ALONG WITH 16-POINT-3 PERCENT OF REGISTERED DEMOCRATS.

Police arrested Reynard Cook last Friday on charges of false identification to law enforcement and disorderly conduct and his preliminary hearing is today. he was wanted by the U-S Marshal’s Service on homicide charges. cook is accused of shooting and killing THE MOTHER OF HIS 3 CHILDREN LAST YEAR in Washington D.C. bail is set at 10-thousand dollars.

former soccer coach due in court

a former assistant girls soccer coach for the altoona area high school is due at a preliminary hearing today on felony counts of having sexual contact with 2 female students, ages 15 and 16, between october 2010 and this past february. 24 year old kyla hollingshead has resigned and she is free on unsecured bond. altoona police tell the altoona mirror that hollingshead allegedly held a knife and threatened to kill herself if one of the girls broke up with her.

reward offered in bald eagle’s death

Rewards are NOW being offered for information on the killer of a bald eagle in Cambria County. The bird was found shot near Loretto ON MAY 10TH AND DIED ON THE WAY TO A VET CLINIC IN STATE COLLEGE. The Game Commission is offering up to 250-dollars for information, and the Humane Society of the United States has added another 5-THOUSAND DOLLARS.

Penn State’s costs related to the Jerry Sandusky scandal total more than 44-point-4 million dollars as of February 28th. the university says THAT GOES TOWARD LEGAL FEES, PUBLIC RELATIONS WORK, CONSULTATION COSTS, AND THE NCAA FINE. President Rodney Erickson has said some costs will be covered by various insurance policies.

ANOTHER CASE was reported in the Altoona AreA School District A MONTH AGO. Health Department workers WILL hold a vaccination clinic in the HOLLIDAYSBURG SCHOOL district today.
