The Food and Drug Administration will be taking a closer look at added caffeine in foods – especially after Wrigley just introduced their new caffeinated gum, which is being advertised with the slogan: “The right energy, right now.”
The problem is that kids chew gum – and the FDA wants to figure out how all this caffeine affects those kids.
Michael Taylor, FDA's deputy commissioner of foods, said the only time the FDA approved the added use of caffeine in a food or drink was in the 1950s for colas.
Since then caffeine is being added to everything from jelly beans to trail mix!!
